Winter Vox

14/12/2024

de 4:00 pm

à 8:00 pm

Winter Vox is back every weekend with six professional or amateur ensembles performing recitals — three on Saturdays and three on Sundays — with the focus on Christmas carols, gospel, hymns as well as the latest pop hits.

KAÏROS

16h-17h

Kairos is a mixed a cappella choir led by mezzo-soprano, teacher and choir leader Laurence Renson. The ensemble, part of Saint-Gilles Academy of Music, largely focuses on the contemporary repertoire, with forays into older polyphonies.

Kairos’s programme of Christmas songs draws on the traditional Christian repertoire and English-language favourites featuring Santa Claus and 20th-century crooners. They’re joined by works of contemporary composers on the Nativity. Kairos invites the Winter Wonders public to moments of shared joy: in Ancient Greek, Kairos (καιρός) means the right season, the opportunity to seize, the critical moment when time stands still.

Clever Kitsch

17h-18h

The a cappella quintette “Clever Kitsch” was launched in 2013 under the direction of its founder and conductor Christophe Schuermans. Every member has a solid musical education and the group soon mastered a very wide repertoire. Their passion for vocal music has led it to develop its own style, incorporating elements of pop, gospel, jazz and rock with a special touch. The group’s repertoire is primarily in English, comprising pieces from Eurythmics to “Imagine Dragons”, “Mister Sandman” and “Somebody to Love”.
The vast majority of works are arranged for five voices by the conductor. The quintette transforms each piece of music into a polyphonic celebration and burst of emotion.
Clever Kitsch is affiliated with “Choir & Voice” and “A Coeur Joie”.
In 2020, it received the title of “outstanding choir” from the A Coeur Joie jury.
The group took part in the World Choir Games in Antwerp in 2021. It won a silver medal at this very demanding competition.
Clever Kitsch will sing at 17:30 on Saturday 14 December near the Black Tower (behind Place Ste-Catherine). Everyone is welcome!

Zinnechoeur

19h-20h

Zinnechoeur is a participatory choir with an eclectic repertoire and thirty or so choristers from wide-ranging backgrounds like Zinneke, the dog on the banks of the Senne that belong to everyone but also no-one. All take the *lead* in the choice of repertoire, organization of concerts and life of their cosmopolitan group.
They’ve been led by Hoviv Hayrabedian since September 2021, following Stéphane Larçon (2012–2016), Emily Allison (2016–2017) and Yvonne Duong (2018–2020).

This will be a polyphony choir concert, with diverse songs varying from the pop repertoire to classical via world music. Performance in different languages.
